Current Projects:
New Tool and Storage Shed
Workers are nearing completion of a new tool shed being erected adjacent to the Stekoa Creek Water Reclamation Facility in Clayton. General Manager Brendan Thompson said the distribution and collections storage facility would be used to store equipment, parts and tools the Rabun County Water & Sewer Authority (RCWSA) acquired from the recent consolidation of water and wastewater services. RCWSA employees did much of the early legwork in getting the building site prepped for contractor Tom Adams. They razed an unused container basin, installed a rock base and performed all of the grading work. Adams is expected to have the building ready to use within a couple of weeks.
Upcoming Projects:
Wolffork Valley – North Loop Completion
The Rabun County Water & Sewer Authority (RCWSA) is currently seeking bids for a project to install more than 15,000 linear feet of 8-inch line in Wolffork Valley. Bids will be opened at the May 14 RCWSA monthly meeting. Thompson said construction likely would begin in mid-June, and the project will take about 4 1/2 months to complete. The project will complete the north loop around the valley and will have the capacity to serve up to 30 additional customers. The key motivation, however, is that the project will keep water moving in the lines, which Thompson said was an important factor in providing water service. The additional water lines also will improve fire protection for Wolffork Valley and allow the RCWSA to bring water into Clayton from the north end of the county while two filters are being replaced later this year at the Lake Rabun Water Treatment Plant. Financing for the project is coming from three sources – Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax revenue, TSPLOST funds and a loan from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority.
The following project is slated to begin in late 2024.
Reconditioning and Upgrading the Filter Equipment
at Lake Rabun Water Treatment Plant to improve treatment capacity.
