The Environmental Protection Division, a division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, protects and restores Georgia’s environment, ensuring clean air, water and land and promoting a sustainable environment that provides a foundation for a vibrant economy and healthy communities.

The Watershed Protection Branch of the EPD manages water resources in Georgia through permits to local governments and industry to discharge treated wastewater and to local governments, industry, farmers and subdivisions for surface water and groundwater withdrawals. The Branch ensures that Georgia’s public water systems are operating properly to supply safe drinking water to citizens, works to control nonpoint sources of pollution, including erosion and sedimentation, and manages stormwater discharges and also conducts water quality monitoring and modeling of Georgia’s waterways. The EPD’s website provides information concerning their efforts and current water related issues affecting Georgia, including conservation and regional water plans.
